Microneedling harnesses the skin’s natural ability to repair itself following any physical injury. I use the Dermapen, a small handheld device which has a special single use needle cartridge attached at the top. The cartridge has multiple microneedles which create pinpoint microchannels as I glide the Dermapen over the skin. This triggers the production of collagen and elastin and helps to normalise various skin functions.
Creating the microchannels enables active ingredients to be infused into and absorbed by the skin where they can get to work (mesotherapy). I use different DP Dermaceutical serums depending on the condition being treated to provide the correct balance of beneficial ingredients to enable skin to repair itself.
What conditions can be treated?
Microneedling can be used to treatment a range of conditions on the face and body including fine lines and wrinkles, generalised skin ageing and sun damage, problematic skin, enlarged pores, acne as well as acne scarring, pigmentation, rosacea, surgical or trauma scars and stretch marks. It is also a fantastic preventative treatment to help keep your skin youthful and radiant.
The device can be used to treat any area of the body and face including difficult to reach areas such as around the eyes and the nose. This is great because we often start to see the effects of ageing in the eye area first.
Immediately following the microneedling treatment itself I can use the Uber range of chemical peels to help enhance and provide targeted treatment results.
The Uber Propeel contains a specific blend of active ingredients to help normalise cell turnover and also address acne, signs of ageing and hyperpigmentation.
The Uber MD peel is used in specific areas to treat deep expression lines and scars including pitted acne scars. The beauty of this peel is that it self neutralises, thereby providing safety.
They can both be used during the same treatment.
Before & After Microneedling Treatment
What happens during the treatment?
It is best to arrive for the treatment without make-up if possible. After thoroughly cleansing your skin, I apply specific active mesotherapy serums based on the condition being treated and treat in sections. After treating all areas, I apply a super hydrating hyaluronic acid mask which helps to calm, soothe and deeply nourish your skin. If we are using either of the Uber peels, these would be applied before the mask. I follow with a relaxing hand massage and application of corrective skin treatments and an SPF, which can also help to conceal any immediate post treatment redness.
The treatment itself should feel like vibration over the skin. A numbing cream is generally not needed as the treatment is relatively quick. As we are trying to stimulate a natural process it is advisable to avoid, as the ingredients in the numbing cream may also be driven into the skin.
How may treatments will I need?
I usually recommend a course of at least 3 treatments or 6 depending on the condition to be treated. These can be spaced anywhere between 4-6 weeks apart depending on the condition treated. I also advise a maintenance treatment every 8-12 months. The treatment itself should take between 60-90 minutes depending on the areas treated.
How will my skin look after the treatment?
Skin is immediately hydrated. You can expect 36-48 hours of a mild to moderate sunburn feeling and appearance. Your skin should return to normal within 7 days at most.
Is the treatment safe?
I take precautions to reduce any risks of infection. The cartridges are sterile and single use only.
Treatment using the Dermapen is suitable for all skin types and due to its design protects skin against tearing and therefore means much less downtime for you. Please remember that a deeper treatment does not mean a better result. When treating, I am looking for a certain visual end point depending on the condition being treated to help me determine how deep I need to treat and can adjust this easily on the device, customising the treatment based on the requirements of my individual patients. There should be no deep track marks.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding it is best to wait until you return to your normal routine.
I discuss your medical history, medications and allergies during our initial consultation to make sure the treatment is suitable for you.
