CHEMICAL PEELS

The Best Foundation You Can Wear, Is Healthy Glowing Skin

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a specific technique for skin renewal. I use peels containing naturally occurring AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) derived from fruits. As many common skin conditions are associated with an excess build-up of dead skin cells which may clog pores and make the skin thick and appear dull, AHAs help to loosen and remove dead surface layers of the skin to chemically exfoliate, smooth, stimulate cell turnover as well as provide deeper antiaging effects.

What are the benefits of having a chemical peel?

Skin actually increases in thickness over time, the treatments help to improve cell turnover which generally slows down as we age, helping skin to behave younger and they can also help to even out pigmentation. They are a great preventative treatment and also prior to a special occasion to help you get a healthy glow.

What happens during a chemical peel?

After thoroughly cleansing your skin, I safely apply a high concentration of AHA to the skin for a short period of time which is subsequently neutralised chemically to end the treatment. I follow this with facial massage using recommended post-peel products.

Before & After Single Chemical Peel Treatment

How long does the treatment take and what can I expect after a chemical peel?

Treatment times vary depending on the type of peel and whether additional steps are included. As a guide:

A standard chemical peel takes approximately 45 minutes.

Peel rejuvenation treatments may take up to 80 minutes, depending on skin needs and treatment intensity.

My signature Glow Facial & Peel takes approximately 75 minutes, incorporating dermaplaning, a customised chemical peel and a hydrating revitalising mask.

Some treatments, including certain medium-depth peels and retinol-based peels, may require skin preparation beforehand. This will always be discussed during your consultation to ensure your skin is optimally supported.

Following your peel, most people find that their skin looks and feels normal within a few hours to a day. Some may experience mild redness, sensitivity, dryness or a slightly rough texture. Light peeling or flaking can occur as part of the natural exfoliation process. These effects are normal and typically settle completely within 7 days as the skin renews.

My approach is always patient-focused and evidence-based. Every peel treatment is personalised to your skin needs, delivered with medical expertise, and supported with clear aftercare to ensure safe, effective results.

How many treatments will I need?

I usually recommend a course of peels (ideally 6 peels) carried out at intervals of 3-4 weeks and a maintenance treatment every 2 months for best results.

How long will it take to see results after a chemical peel?

After 1-3 peels
there may be improvement in acne prone skin and textural smoothening.
After 3-6 peels there may be deeper textural changes and more noticeable improvements.

Severe skin issues can take longer to improve. Ideally a series of peels is advised and this may be in combination with other types of skin treatments.

After a series of chemical peels (ideally 6) the results are similar to medium depth peels without the downtime. As with all treatments, results are also affected by age, cumulative sun exposure, overall health and any underlying medical conditions, lifestyle, genetic traits, general skin condition and skincare regime.

Are chemical peels suitable for everyone?

The NeoStrata peels that I work with are suitable for all skin types (including people with black skin), all ages (please note I only treat over 18s) and men and women. The peels themselves are safe, effective and non-toxic.

For first timers, I usually start gently with either a brightening or clarifying peel. I can customise treatments according to your individual skin concerns and layer peels. We can also step up the concentration of glycolic acid safely as tolerated by your skin. I do not carry out chemical peels if you are or may be pregnant or are breastfeeding. It is best to wait until you return to your normal routine.

How can I look after my skin after a chemical peel?

Avoid touching your face to prevent introducing infection.

Avoid make-up for at least 24 hours or until any redness has settled completely.

Cleanse your skin twice daily using a gentle cleanser. Avoid active ingredients such as AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) or Vitamin A, and manual exfoliation for at least 48 hours after the treatment.

Make sure to apply a mineral sunscreen ideally factor 50 with a high PA rating daily for at least 2 weeks and avoid direct sun exposure for at least 24 hours after treatment.

Avoid tanning beds.

Avoid aerobic exercise or vigorous physical activity for at least 24 hours or until any redness has completely settled.
